2018: How We Began
May, 2018
The First Note
A simple email from Richard Daniels seeking to start a Gay Men’s Chorus in Eugene connected with Evan Miles, a conducting student at the University of Oregon. Over dinner with Wade Cox and Robert Blake at South Hills Cafe, the dream of EGMC was born!
June, 2018
Finding Our Voices
Our first meet-and-greet happened at Wade and Robert’s home, where potential members gathered around showtunes and shared contact information. The excitement was contagious!
July, 2018
Taking the Stage
After just a few rehearsals at First Congregational Church, we made our public debut performing “You’ll Be Back” from Hamilton and “Seize the Day” from Newsies as guests at an Influence concert.
August, 2018
Pride Performance
We sang at Eugene PRIDE, recruiting new members while sharing our music with the broader LGBTQ+ community for the first time.
December, 2018
Holiday Magic
Our first-ever concert “Coming Out for the Holidays” played to sold-out crowds, instantly becoming a new Eugene holiday tradition!
2019: Making History
Liberation!
We celebrated LGBTQ+ Pride and the 50th anniversary of Stonewall with our powerful “Liberation!” concert, bringing messages of empowerment and hope.
On the Road
EGMC took its message north, performing at Pride Northwest in Portland and expanding our reach beyond Eugene.
Community Outreach
We partnered with HIV Alliance to perform for National HIV Testing Day, strengthening our community connections.
Leading with Pride
EGMC kicked off the first-ever Eugene Pride march, leading the way with song and celebration!
Onward!
Starting with a vision of 60 singers and two concerts per year, EGMC has grown into a vital part of Eugene’s cultural landscape with many of our original members in leadership roles today.
“Our chorus stands as testament to what can happen when passionate people come together around a shared love of music and community.”
— Evan Miles – EGMC Artistic Director
